Shoulder update

My surgery on Thursday went well.  In addition to the expected clean out of the AC joint, they found a tear in the labrum.  Apparently, these tears do not show up on a MRI very often.  They repaired the tear, which involved suturing it back on to the bone.  I'm looking at a 6 week recovery instead of the 2 that we expected.

I'm still in a pretty good amount of pain, but I'm sick of the fog that the narcotics are causing, so I'm feeling out a good balance of narcotics, Advil, ice packs, etc.  I have a super heavy duty sling and a black neoprene vest that fits over the shoulder.  The vest is hooked up to a device that looks like a canister vacuum, and it pumps ice cold water through the vest in 30 minute cycles.  Although its hard to be plugged in constantly, it is providing a great deal of relief.

Andy has been working double time, taking care of me and Maia as well as finishing a big project for work.  Maia has been spending a lot of time at friends, which has helped tremendously.  Today Andy managed to find some Gerber daisies, which are my favorite flowers and a bit scarce up here!

I go back to the doctor tomorrow.  Hopefully I will get the all clear to shower (yay!) and a less bulky sling.  Maia has been pretty stand-offish and I think its the big black thing that half my body is wrapped in! Hopefully a less bulky sling will help.

Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes!

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everyone.  We had an awesome visit with uncle Jeff, we'll post pictures from his visit soon.  The day before Easter we joined our friends Art and Jen and their son Andrew for an Easter egg hunt.  Here's a picture of Maia and Andrew decked out in their Easter finery, ready to find the eggs.  They both did well, thankfully there was a limit of 12 eggs per kid and they had a separate area for toddlers.
In other news, I (Becca) am going in tomorrow for surgery on my shoulder.  Its outpatient, so I should be home a few hours after its over.  Years of wear and tear have lead to arthritis in the AC joint, so they are going to shave down a bit of the collar bone and clean out the joint to give me some relief from the pain.  We are blessed with a great group of friends up here who are going to help out with Maia during the recovery.  My hope is that I'm back up and running when it is finally warm enough for some tennis up here, like mid July!

Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers tomorrow.

Sick

Our normally energetic toddler has caught a bug this week.  This is how she spent most of Tuesday and Wednesday.  She's been in better spirits today, and hasn't had a fever since very early this morning, so hopefully she is on the mend!  Just in time too- Uncle Jeff is coming into town tomorrow to spend the week.

Off to the races

Here are some pictures from the World Sled Dog Championship and the Iditarod. We were downtown for the start of the Championship and it was neat to watch how excited the dogs where just before they took off. For the Iditarod, we camped out along the trails through town.
